Tourniquets are medical devices commonly utilized during cardiothoracic surgical interventions for controlling the tension on auricular purse-string sutures. This function is specifically required when the surgeon performs a cardiac valve commissurotomy.  Tourniquets can also be utilized for controlling bleeding in different surgical cardiac incision procedures and to provide occlusion in great vessels in the order to control the release of blood flow.
