Obstetric perforators

Obstetric perforators are specialized life saving obstetric surgical instruments that are used in cases of obstructed labor to perform an embryotomy, craniotomy or evisceration where the still birth is removed from the vagina by decreasing the diameter of the skull or removing parts of the abdominal and pelvic viscera to expedite removal of the fetus and save the mother’s life. The perforators essentially resemble a pair of scissors with two blades on one end that are sharp on the inner edge and blunt on the outer ones, connected via a central screw to the handles.
