The main two parts of the instrument is a very bulky handle and a blade that is guttered and beveled on the outer side to prevent biting the bone very deeply. Surtex instruments’ bone gauges are available in several sizes and shapes. Smith-Peterson Bone Gouge Curved, for example, has a curved blade to allow deeper guttering or reaching a challenging areas of the bone.
